The oudeis project is on the right way to establish a theater experience
for its audience!
There are 2 different "types" of audience:
audience around the RL stages
cyberaudience
lets speak about the RL audience first:
seems easier to give them a theater experience, because they will see a
familiar environment: a theater room and a stage!
what to put on the stage? if it is odysseus' stage at the moment, at least
one actor will be there. If it is not, we have to make sure that the light
cones are "theatrical" explicit enough.
BUT besides this we have what was once called Environment:
we are also playing WITH the technic (as Dan also described - I like the
idea of beginning with a total black out :)
and we also want the RL audience to see not only the Virtual actors but
also the "virtual Audience", the other spectators.
That would mean: using video to provide pictures of the audience on the
other life stages (sorry Dan but I think Video Conferencing does not do any
good to our performance - I recently had the experience here of slow
moving, or sometimes not moving, small pictures that gave us only a thought
of that they played theater on the other end of the line. But it would be
perfect to show pictures of the audience, which can be updated only every x
minutes)
and give the cyberaudience possibilities to ___react___
So the theater experience for the spectators would be:
ok, I left my home to: join other people and get a story told
The other people are not only the ones that are really around me, they are
worldwide! I can see them (on monitor screens "wow how does Australians
Audience look like at five o clock in the morning" :)
and I can "hear" them - the cyberchor who give comments to the ongoing
or (Santiago, are you back) sends some music
and I can probably hear where odysseus is at the moment, how does he feel,
lost in chicago, held back by circe? What does odysseus hear, sitting on
calypsos Island mourning and longing for Penelope?
some of this is a question of webdesign as well (that's a part where we
really need someone !! too bad that the creative gunther - webmaster of the
oudeis-pages left the group)
and I really like the LONG LIVE oudeis idea
we are gods, why not give us eternity?
conferring to the writing of the episodes:
I thought, we at oudeis-idea are the "specialists" - no of course we are
not yet, but I think
we will try to find out, and have already found out, what odysseus can find
in the net.
Gernot and me will try to finish our proposed episodes (well - this took
longer than thought - sorry), like only work out one carefully and also the
ideas of the others than post or distribute them somehow and come back to
the idea that the stages should write out their episodes as they need them!
I also like the idea of Vienna as a "frame". What would fit perfectly is:
first scene
Aeolos is giving Odysseus a skin full of winds as a guest gift.
(19) He gave me the skin of a nine-year-old ox he had flayed,
(20) And in it he had bound the courses of the blustering winds.
The ship sails home
( 30) And we were close enough to see men tending the fire.
( 31) Then sweet sleep came upon me in my weariness
This could have been the end if not
(26) That would carry the ship and the men onward. He was not
(27) Destined to complete it. We were lost by our own foolishness.
well, the companions opened the skin and ....
So we could begin with a "possible end if not...." the gods had interfered
(hm, what I saw right now as I checked the phrases again, is that
chronically the story of cyclops comes first ..)
some organizational points at the end (maybe Karin will post them soon to
oudeis-mgmt, so I will mention them in a short version - btw: welcome to
Karin, who is new in our group and brought some power with her!)
we are now making some paper presentation, means 10 or 12 colorfully pages
we could send you to show them to sponsors, theaters ....
please mail oudeis@iguwnext.tuwien.ac.at your address and we would be more
than happy to mail them to you.
AND: we came back to a point spoken about in August (remember Dan?) We try
to establish a "workshop" presentation, a miniature of oudeis in February.
Hard work for Rainer but I think this will be a great help for convincing
IBM and others.
We are not sure if we will use two places in Vienna or 2 in Europe or
worldwide. Depends on how much money we can afford, or where we find a
partner who can cooperate for this experiment. Suggestions?
bye for now
