More on the subject of our discussions:

Yes. Maybe one of your dramaturgical functions involve the investigation of
past theatre projects involving the Internet???
Learning and gathering information from previous productions and attempts
to use the Internet in theatre. It seems to me that this project is
different than a traditional theatre project so there is going to be some
overlap - this probably includes design and dramaturgy and directing,
writing. Also, in certain areas, it may be easier to bring in a specialist
than to try to do it within the group of artists.

I think the light cones are important. They are essential to the live
theatre experience but I believe that the video is essential to linking the
theatre venues in time and space. In theatrical space the video, to me,
suggests a different location, a window to the next episode, a VISION from
the journey. In practical space the video completely links the various
theatres together. The audience can actually see the other stage so it is
"real" or "present" in their mind. Lighting only presents an abstraction.
The lighting is an important abstraction however and a needed addition to
the theatre space. It is especially important because if it ends up that
captured video is only used then lighting will make up for dramatic
movement. In my mind the audio from the other sites is like someone from
long ago whispering in your ear and the video is like the image from a dream.

Depends on how the video is used but I agree I have seen some plays where
t.v. screens have completely dominated and overwhelmed the onstage action.
Video must be used carefully.

Yes. You may want to contact Martin Mueller - he's a professor at
Northwestern who has worked on a website with others called the Chicago
Homer site:
http://www.library.nwu.edu/publications/homer/
It's a web accessible database for Homer's texts (Odyssey and others).
I don't know him but his e-mail address is:
martinmueller@nwu.edu
He may know of someone in Vienna who can help.
That question gets me into the proposal which I will bring before my board.
Here is a little of what I'm thinking about on my side. In a few weeks I'll
have it more together and will show it to you to make sure I have all
correct information from your side:
Studio Proposal
Collaborating Artists:
Joe Fosco - a Chicago performance artist and sound designer. He recently did
a very good show at the Blue Rider Theatre and his use of performance and
sound is really interesting. He has expressed an interest in Oudeis.
Northwestern Director and actor perhaps?? - there are a few Northwestern
people who I think maybe interested. Might want to get involved.
Collaborating organizations:
FOLLOWING APPROVAL from the Studio Z board I would probably contact the
Northwestern University Performance Studies Dept. I would see if we could
arrange some sort of joint production with them. The Studio does not have
the facilities to execute this project. However with Northwestern's help,
we probably could do it. The project may also combine well with the Chicago
Homer website which is currently at Northwestern.
Anyway that's a VERY rough draft of the proposal and a LOT of things are
still uncertain.
We'll see what happens,
Dan
