oudeis does for ars electronica.
On friday, sep 12th we will have 4 hours to show people in linz and people
in the net how oudeis team works and what is planned for the future.

oudeis - a world wide odyssey is a global theater production
Using real actors in simultaneous interaction with virtual actors, this
global theater production will 1998 follow the journey of Odysseus across
seven international stages and will utilize the Web as the eighth stage to
link actors and audiences alike
The project uses the Internet as both a tool for collaborative development
and as a performance space.
In the theatrical production of oudeis - a world wide odyssey, the
collaborative creative work, a working situation in the fringe tradition,
was enlarged to a world wide collaboration via the Internet.
As a work in progress, this project already exists in its ongoing
discussion, in the work on its development and its reflection of the
artistic and theatrical scene.
In Linz worldwide oudeis team will demonstrate interested artists and
participants of ars electronica festival its working method, introduce the
concept of the theatrical production and show achieved results.
Via mailinglists the world wide communication among oudeis team members is
established. In addition to that a synchronous way of communication is
necessary for the creativity as well. Regular meetings of the world wide
team take place in the environment of ATHEMOO.
Oudeis will explain these means of communication (if not known already by
participants) and give possibilities to get familiar with MOOing.
In a technical and artistic Formulation oudeis team will further present
the virtual journey of Odysseus - from stage to stage, from town to town,
from venue to venue.
The actors in oudeis are represented on the other stages by moving lights,
their movements and data gathered from bio-sensors are transmitted over the
net.
For this conception both technical aspects (bandwidth, data transformation,
....) and artistic considerations (the virtual material of and actor) were
taken into account.
Attended to the workshop is a half an hour performance: a short
introduction of the artistic team and their virtual presence - "by
communication and interaction they will by their reaction to our words
create oudeis"
and the monthly newspaper Status Quo which is available via World Wide Web
where it can also be downloaded as a printable version since summer 1996
