I have had some practical questions about the multiple stages
implementation and have decided to approach it by modelling the
long-term plan on the MOO for my own understanding. To begin, I already
had a Land of the Dead which I was working on in connection with another
project on non-mimetic MOO spaces. Second, I suggested earlier that the
MOO could be used as a place for the gods to have their assemblies and
from which to send out Hermes. My current plan is to finish building
Olympus, Phaiakia, Troy, the sea, and Ithaka as separate locations. The
next step will be to create bots, costumes, some way of representing
which "characters" are "real" and which are "virtual" in a given space.
Of course, they will all be virtual, but the key will be some means of
linking a virutal to a real original.
These solutions are much simpler than they will be in reality which is
precisely the point. The strength of the MOO lies in its focus on
content--which so far has been the weakness of oudeis. So this will be a
way of thinking about content. It doesn't commit the group to anything.
If you don't like the idea of it, I can rename everything and use it for
something else. If you are counting, you will know that I have only
listed 6 rooms, not 7. If you have thoughts about other rooms you think
are necessary or some other way of apportioning the content to different
stages let me know and I will try my best to respond to your ideas.
We have a Canadian venue for the Ars Electronica event--so there will be
an audience with PCs, speakers, mics and 28.8 dialup links. ISDN is a
possiblity, but it is still being negotiated. The performance at this
location will not be confined to oudeis. The AE perf hits us in the
morning--so we plan to have an audience of potential producers and
technical people during a coffee break in their working day. For us, the
real performance will come later--in the evening. Time hasn't been set,
but in the 7-9 p.m. PDT time slot. If you have a preference about this
let me know. There will be something more like dinner theater for this
later one, but once again people will be introduced to oudeis and will
be given a tour of the MOO site, the music, the light cone and costume
drawings and whatever else is available for a remote audience at that
time.
This will probably be an invited group of people--press, theater people,
and people who run venues that might be interested in putting something
like this on as an entertainment. Kevin Costner has been doing a movie
in Nelson; if he's still around, we'll invite him and his crew. Oudeis
will be part of it. The idea is to put together a viable show and have
oudeis be part of that. How much a part remains to be seen. If some of
the Linz crew can be there just to talk to, that would be a big plus.
We can certainly use as much help online as we can get, so whether you
are in Linz at that time or coming in from elsewhere, if you would like
to contribute, let me know. We have a series of rehearsals and other
events at ATHEMOO, so there will certainly be plenty of opportunities
for you to acquaint yourself with the space.
Cheers,
