I offer these comments NOT as something that needs to be solved before the
12th, but in an effort not to FORGET to mention these important issues.
So, please read on and put these thoughts on your back burners :-)
While I was happy to offer the team athemoo for a meeting place, it wasn't
really until this summer that I started participating in what grows in my
mind everyday as THE most important theatrical endeavor of the decade!
Last weekend I finally read carefully all the mail I'd saved from this
list and I have to tell you, the work you/we are doing is f----g
incredible :-)
But, here's the caveat..... Thus far, it looks to me, an admitted
outsider still, like this event remains firmly rooted in the performances
in physical theatres despite the 'net connection of said. This is
fabulous, incredible, ground-breaking work. My suggestion is that we
need, as a group, once the performance in Linz has happened with two
stages connected, to begin to consider what the performance will be like
for 'net audiences. In other words, so far (and this is NOT a criticism)
the project has been SERVED by but not OF the internet.
Many folks will not have the pleasure of ever seeing or being able to see
a performance in one of the seven/ten/howevermany physical locations. I
am a pretty determined 'net viewer, and I have had lots of trouble trying
to get my own system set up to received the web materials. I think I
might not be alone in this. So, one thing we'll have to attend to is some
pretty detailed instructions for those attending thru the 'net for how to
get the necessary plug-ins etc.
Secondly, the inclusion of moospace as performance space is wonderous!
Thus far, even just having the three languages was incredible and those
who attended the MMK performance continue to talk excitedly about it here.
But, we have not even scratched the surface of what is possible to the
'net audience thru MOO. Jim has begun some important work on that and we
two shall continue to bother y'all with ideas and imput about how to
realize another realm of this incredible project! And I hope that there
will be members of the team who will want to pursue this with us.
Looking forward to the 12th and to the coming year with glee!
in deepest respect and awe of this project and it's team,
Juli
