Hi everybody,

I am back in NY now and my feelings are still in tourbulences :-) and I
have much more to say that I can express in words.

But I also feel that the subject Lee chose for his mail fits perfectly in
the momentary mood.

You should have seen me in my post-performance depression. That's how Lee
called it and I guess everybody felt it.

So I hope you, with whom I had the chance to be with for only some
seconds in real life - understood my reaction and my unability to express
my admiration for the work everybody of you - of us has done.

hm, I also would again start to thank everybody in particular, even with
risking to "forget" somebody :) but rather than doing this I am - again- saying thank you
all for your great work.
and I invite you to state your impressions - your honest feelings - about
Among Immortals, but even more about oudeis in general to this list. (tnx
rainer already!)

You are also invited to write to me private, but I might ask some of you
if we can publish your ideas herer (michael?) because I would find it VERY
helpful.

I am still overwhelmed with many "private" feelings about my 3 days in
Austria. too early yet to really speak about them.
I had no chance to have long talks to everybody, but I felt so
close to you, lee and santiago - as we know each other so well already
after this long and intense time. you also helped me to
get over every strangeness I felt while being "at home" for some hours
aaron I met for the first time as well was, as I expected him to be :)
and I enjoyed working with him and christian.
georg and me - well that's special ( I don't know how I would exist
without him)
maybe the most distance I felt with gernot ... how did you feel about
this gernot?

let me continue with some reflections to the AI performance

I want to underline santis expression, which definetly fit into what I felt.
Coming from the "other" site , the virtual world (is that what you call
the real oudeis ?) I guess I felt strongest, what this neglection meant
and this definetly can not be an exchange for all this effort , time and
work that was put into the online appereance

As already in MMK , the focus was on the RL audience in Linz
and Vienna

that's how lee and me conceived Among Immortals
that's how gernot works (because his skill , as we all know now, lies in
the RL performance not in understanding the virtual space)

a main reason for this decision - to have a performance focusing on
real space - is: money
we decided to do AI 1 because of our sponsors and to gain publicity in vienna

what happened in june was: jim came with the idea to extend the MOO
performance (I guess jim initiated it), and the MOO part ended up being
better than the RL part
even though this part was never worked out and discussed carefully between
ALL participants, not until today!

the failiure in MMK was first of all, because I didnt really succeed in
producing + directing this performance without gernot, I really missed his advice
(well the difference and the importance to have a director like gernot
therecan be seen in AI 2 !! :) )

second, we didnt have that technical support there, the staff was much
smaller, and poor rainer had much too much to took care of

third AI 1 was NOT prepared well enough

the reason for doing AI again on ars electronica are similar to MMK:
money and publicity
again this took place in Austria

lets start with the mirror in vienna:

the reason for having cafe stein involved is : to satisfy needs of
sponsors and to get the poss. to do PR in vienna

even if there was no audience there, this could be fullfilled (because we
have some pictures we can use, and because we have the fact that we did it)
:)
sometimes producing art is a fake, but I guess thats not the place to
discuss this

I can not see that the mirror in Vienna was planned for to test something
out
but in the end we did, because we tested Real Audio - and we learned a
lot.

also I am sure for everybody in the team it was great to find out that we
really can do it - like karin organizing computer and additional bandwith

to look back at linz again:

after some hours of sleep and being away from the emotional waves I have
been in while being in Austria,
I sit back, clap my hands, smiles and say to myself (or who ever asked me
about my journey)
"it was great"

I guess we - or you, who worked on it that hard in the last weeks -
succeeded in what you had in mind to do,
and thats great

I was wrong to ever do a comperison to the actual intension of oudeis
but we definetly can not lean back in a feeling of success and the
impression that we have fullfilled what we were talking about for the
last year - well we know that of course

...overnight netlagbreak ...
(thank god this maile was saved soemwhere)

.. have to et some vit c as well :)
take a rest lee! and take care, all of you
