I have already given my answer to this question: See, "On putting old wind
in new bags--Why the
Odyssey, dated October.
> - do we still work and experiment with lightcones
Would I buy a ticket to watch someone demonstrate light
cones? Sounds more like a science project than theater. I
would probably try to get someone else to pay my way,
e.g. professional development money. I suspect that light
cones are too expensive for a single-performance idea.
Light cones are really about venues and a dedicated
wide-area network. And they are just a production detail.
I can take them or leave them.
Much as I like Juli's idea of 2 stages, I don't think it
goes far enough. Before we take the lightcone idea to the
public again, we should build a scale model of two stages
and bench test it. If Ericsson is a real sponsor, they
could probably provide materials to model an ISDN--or
wireless or whatever they are interested in. I don't
think that is an issue of artistic integrity, is it?
(The physical experiment could be preceded by a
virtualization in MOO.) From those experiments, we could
develop a budget and approach some potential venue
managers.
