Hi Lee and all of you creative participants,

as Lee is now going to rewrite oudeis, maybe we should still have an open
discussion to support (or hinder ;) his work. So I publish and continue a
email chat that he and me had recently, here.

Lee, what I am unsure at the moment is: are you going to use homers words
as well? If you don't : is there no copyright problem left, but we will
have to translated it for every stage??

I am curious to see what you can take into the play of the many ideas that
where developed on this list. I think we will need 7 Episodia. Will you
take the Episodions I have chosen? There is still no final Episodion ....

In Greek Tragedy there is the prolog of an actor (I think we don't have that)
than the choros comes in (Parodos - entrance song)
than comes what can be the Embolimon - song that can have no dramatic or
thematic relation to the play, if you can grab the poetik: its in 1456a
27-30 where he says that one should and sophokles had included the choros
into the plot, and Euripides in is late works didnt any more
in comedia - poets "after" Euripides as Aristotels states - the choros song
became entre act music, some Intermezzi used for several plays

well about the ending chorossong I am not sure.

In Euripides Cyclops (where the coros is included into the plot!) it ends
with words of the chorleader,
in our case it may have a _happy end_ by the reunion of odysseus and penelope.

So as we still don't know if we already stage our play this autumn or wait
one year (I will soon send a mail where I explain how we could wait one
year),
there is still some point to be regarded we did not discuss because of time
problems I think.

We are influenced by the theory of Christine Pellech, who describes the
Odyssey as a Phoenician worldtour (see
http://iguwenxt.tuwien.ac.at/~oudeis/journey.html)
Too bad in this case that she is Austrian and I do not know if this book
was ever published in English. Mainly it is described in there, why she
finds the places that she marks on her map.
The starting idea of making oudeis - a world wide odyssey was based on this
idea, and of redrawing exactly this map. We could still follow this up and
think of f.e. the analogy of Hades to the niagara falls (a reason to stage
this scene in chicago) The ideal case would be that we are open to build
stages on the station of the world tour of odysseus,
------> what we did recently was to "basicly" redraw the map, not based on
her theories but based on the possibility where to stage. What we all know
is that it Internet is still not very common in parts of Africa and parts
of Asia. So having a stage there is on the one hand tempting on the other
hand more hard for us to realize. We still have no partners that could give
there cultural input conferring a possible stage in these locations on our
list here, so whatever we develop here it will be out of our cultural point
of view.

My thoughts are drifting away, but what I mean is: maybe we should rethink
the locations of odysseus journey and find a reason why we should stage
that episodion on that part of the world!

what would you suggest?
