Hyperborean 6 a.m.

It's beginning to be light. Light comes later and later these days. (The
true Arctic has 6 months of day, 6 of night, remember. Thinking about it
reminds me of Dusty, a friend who lives just down the road, who was
trained in the Inuit tradition of bone carving years ago when he was in
the MacKenzie delta. He's there now, up in Tuktoyaktuk, at the beginning
of the long Arctic night--heavy equipment crew supervisor for an Inuit
contractor. Dusty carves
animals and scenes mainly out of antlers that the Cariboo and other
ungulates drop
in the springtime before they grow a whole new set for the coming year.
He's up there now because the economy of his carving business has
changed and he needs some big bucks to take the next step. But I think
he
needs it for his soul. You can see one of his Dog Team pieces at

http://www.netidea.com/~cyberhut/akaboris/sponsors.htm.

) I think of
Dusty Bearht because the icy fingers of night are reaching toward him,
as reach down to me also. I think of him because he wanted to be here
for this. and he returns to the land and the people who made him an
artist. Even here at the Junction, it's darkening daily. Now the long
shadows are receding for another day. At 6 a.m. I know that my neighbor
Mike is already driving his rig up the mountain where he logs. Across
the street, a washroom light just went on. I can picture a taxi at the
foot of Baker, turning right and going up the hill to an empty town.
Even Wait's News won't be open this time of day any more. The 7Eleven is
still open all night.

Christine, the cab driver, is headed back up to Wait's to meet Yuki, the
a dispatcher.
Yuki has been having trouble with the radio. Christine sees the crazy
Robertson boy in his pajamas lurching up Baker Street and takes him to
the hospital. Ruby, the sleek coon hound who has come in from the Indian
Reserve and charmed just about everybody by now, is trotting up the road
and sniffing. Unusual time of day for her to be up here.
**Bears**

I know she's been hard at work lately. Lookin very good. One of these
days, Ruby and me is gonna run away and have puppies but that's another
story. On this kind of day, you
go inside to get warm, not to cool off.

Yaco, Nelson will not be a mirror for this performance. Nelson will be a
salon and I will want to be able to present them with the MOO and with
your work and the work of the Oudeis (NoBody No Body, yeah) So I can
dload the files right after the perf. That's the last opportunity for
this
particular pulse, but in any case, let's keep trying. We'll get it
eventually. This is not leading edge. This can be done.

What kind of animation format are you using? I would like to have the
sound track on Real Audio and am using the GIF construction set for
animations. That is really what we need for mirroring. An .ra file.
Forget the web page for now. Let's concentrate on
getting these files to work among ourselves.

We appreciate your willingness to do long days and late hours. I expect
we will be doing some of that here too. I will be in Athemoo for the
perf trying
to get recorded material for a transcript. My log will be running and I
hope Twyla will be able to help me to get feed from 3-4 different cams
into a
control unit and out to projector data objects. This is all software,
all virtual. There are no unusual hardware requirements. Juli? Maybe
Kristian? Quien sabe?

I am hoping to be invisible for this. There will be a Jim sitting in the
audience.
The.Great.Patootie has got a job with the janitors. Really, they hired
him to keep them in line. Now, he's the union secretary, very mysterious
character. I think he has some ideas of his own.

But he will just be at the performance as a puff of smoke or
a cigarette butt or something. I understand Kristian is going to be
there. Juli, I think it's just a rename of my character. But I don't
want "puff of smoke teleports in," ok? Or maybe I do. I don't know.

I want the person to be able to
see that I am there, like i am on your headsup display unit. I am
reading you and giving you data. I am there for support. This is really
Hermes or TinkerBell. It seems to me MooMC is a metaHermes, who would
that be? Athena, maybe. Something more than a mere Prince of Hamadryads.

The audience cannot see me. Just the person in the control room and the
people onstage or in the wings. MooMC, people onstage, and the cu. The
cu sees input from the cams I think. And the operators only see me when
I am in the room with them.
I think most of the time I will just teleport in and you will know that
I am there.
and watching and not to pay any attention to me. Mainly I am there for
emergencies--like you gotta go get another cup of coffee. I will leave
without a ripple. That's the plan. But if you say "Hermes? I hope to get
your page wherever I am. Concept only. Draft version, active helper
generic.

I propose to do an invocation at the beginning. Demodokus mumbles this
part quickly before he commences. But only a fool would undertake such a
perilous adventure as ours without inviting the gods to join us and
indeed to tell the story.

So I will definitely be there in a supporting role but none of this will
hit Nelson till later in the evening--except for the staff of the
Station Manor and early morning customers. Beginning of the day folk.
Who knows? Maybe we find an audience there. I think the party after is
the most important thing for us at Athemoo. That is how we connect. It
is a very open and open ended form for us. Pueblo takes us out to the
Internet and in particular to the Athemoo home page. I am not speaking
for Juli here. I am actually describing how I see it from the Station
Manor. The whole oudeis site is out there. Athemoo Backstage event after
the performance in the oudeis ship means we could talk to someone in
Hawaii or Linz or Iowa or Texas or NY. Stick around and Meet the
Players. Juli can we
formalize the interview process a little and show people some of the
other spaces in Athemoo. (There is actually a washroom! Can we do a show
in there some time, Juli? I would like to go on a tour with you some
time, Juli. Is that part of the tutorial?)

Final Reminders:
Please keep your smoke out of the teleportation units.
Remember, zephyrs and ghosts will take all the bandwidth they can get;
and, finally, ghosts cannot speak unless you give them blood.

Om,
Mother Og
