i have to admit I did not know how epimetheus was (that explains also my
bad spelling) - but for sure we shouldn use him as he is not part of
homers story

one year ago (oh my god) twyla and matt had this great suggestion to by
the "comments on odyseeus" very useful for students :)
there is a list of all gods in it .... but .... I dont have this with me
in NY yet
as I know twyal currently lives out of moving boxes I dont even want to
ask if she has it around somewhere :)

so hermes is mainly understood as the messenger - but you are right,
he takes another tasks in the odyseey (!)
but I dont know if people would understand this
male gods are:
Aeolos - lord of the winds
Ares - god of war
Cronos - one of the older gods
Hades - god of the underworld
Hephaistos - god of fire and the forge
Hermes - messenger of the gods and guide of the dead
Poseidon - god of the sea (especially hostile toward Odysseus)
hm, but when I look at this list only Hephaistos seems somehow good,
maybe Aeolos would be better ...

Athena sounds good for me!
female gods are:
aphrodite - goddess of love
Athene - goddes of the arts (special patron of Odysseus)
Calypso
Erinyes - goddess who fulfill curses and avenge crimes
Hera - queen of the gods (wife and sister of Zeus :) )
(thats all from Albert Cooks translation on The Odyssee :) )
Mon
(yes I have found a 24 lab at columbia university :) )
