freiburg - future - everything

Hi

I think going to Freiburg is
first
a great opportunity to develop and show oudeis
second
requires money and time

We should definetly not miss it!

I know Dan, we should not be driven by other peoples deadlines, but the
time (june 98) seems perfect for another step of oudeis!!

Let's discuss what we can do:

1)
Can we apply for the category "demonstrations"?

""""""""quote""""""
Demonstration/Poster sessions enable researchers and non-commercial
developers to demonstrate and discuss their latest
results and
developments in progress in order to gain feedback and to
establish
contact with similar projects. Demonstration/Poster
sessions do not
involve a formal presentation and will not be included in
the proceedings.
""""""""quote""""""

For oudeis , going there as a team , with a prepared performance, this
seems to be the most readonable and profitabel thing;

I think within 3 days (that are left for the deadline) we can easily

""""""""quote""""""
a 2-3 page written description of the planned demonstration/poster
and should emphasize the problem, what was done, and
why the
work is important.
""""""""quote""""""

a problem here is that we will have to bring our own hardware!! (not a
real problem, only a consideration of money)

Can this performance/demonstration be a MOO only demonstration? How can
we set this up that people will be attracted? Who are the
audiencemembers? Are those people sitting in front of a computer all
their workday long? Will they have to sit in front of our computer/screen
all performance long?

Or will we have 2 parts of this presentation: a poster session and a
performance ?
(did I ever pass this url
http://www2.hn.psu.edu/Faculty/SSchrum/CV/PosterSession97.html ?)

2)
Though, if we think we will not be able to go there as a team, and might
not have something "physically" to present, we can still think of
presenting oudeis in a paper. This would cover the "academic" aspect of
our project and will not include any performance.

Karin, did you already contact freiburg? tell them that we are interested.
can I assume that at this point no money is available from kispro side?
that would mean , at this point, everybody would have to take care of his
or her travel, accomodation and registration fee.
(this does not mean that not everybody (!) will try to raise money - I am
just saying nobody can promise anything. but each of us can try to get
local money?)

what I think we should do at this point:
juli and jim, can I lay the porposal and the final decision in you hands?

Let me put it like this: I am not very happy about a MOO *only*
performance. I feel that this would split the parts that we are trying to
bring together even more. oudeis tries to combine RL performer with
virtual performer.
On the other hand I can see that our concept of the webstage & MOO is far
more developed than the RL concept. Thanks to santiagos great ideas,
thanks to juli's and jim's skills in MOO performances.
I would like to continue to work on both of them - the RL and the virtual
part rather than concentrating on one part. Don't get me wrong, I know
that in previous performances we neglected the MOO part. I was thinking
aobut the reason: I have the feeling that there - in
the MOO - we are much more stable, and closer to find out what our faults
are/were.

If we decide to choose the possibility to present a paper, the situation
is different of course. This can cover more and focus on one or the other
point. Can I assume that you, Juli , will present the paper?
:)

Beside speaking about Freiburg, oudeis has to speak about the future
plans in general (as you all noticed :) )
here I first of all encourage to rethink Dan pointed out
relating to artistic - technical - and production aspects.
And I think some of those answers are found in Jim's mail (on putting old
wind in new bags) - I am thinking about a place to put it on oudeis pages
(georg???)
But many answers have to come from vienna:
who is going to produce/lead/and develop the (artistic) concept of this
thing?

second I really like that jim is concentrating on the multi-lingual
aspect of oudeis. I definetly agree that we can develop this part more
and if possible, can you follow up your suggestions?

third let's work on the webinterface/ virtual performance part! I am
really pleased about santiagos suggestions, about how to "speed" things
up (sorry that's very casual said). I also agree with jim on the other
hand that downloading is a problem for audience members
- but I dont think we can have a version that would require NO
downloading, right?
anyhow, we need to discuss & develop and designs those things!!

let's get to work!!

a big hug to you all
Mon
