Plus, I would also point out that there are many people no longer with
oudeis because of the way they were treated and also because of their
perception of how the project was unfolding. This includes virtually all
of the original creators with the exception of Gernot. These original
creators are students at IGW and are very fine and intelligent people.
During my time in Vienna I had many conversations with them and found out
their reasons for leaving. In addition to these original creators, an
entire technical team has left, as well as Felippe and others. There are
problems with oudeis, DEEP DEEP DEEP PROBLEMS! This is why people are
frustrated and also why the oudeis ship is currently smashing against the
reefs. I was trying to confront these problems when I wrote WHAT IS
OUDEIS? Unfortunately, there are people who are afraid to confront these
difficulties and would prefer to lash out at the messenger with irrational
fury (nothing new there).
Nobody on the list REALLY knows what happened in Vienna before Ars, during
Ars, and just after Ars. At some point, I may write about this in detail
but for now I have avoided doing so. However, one of the reasons for
santiago's petulance concerning me revolves around the problem we had with
rehearsals (Georg, if you want to say something about this, please do!). I
will not get into any details concerning this unless it becomes necessary,
but I will say that everyone's time was important and given the fact that
we only had a limited number of rehearsals, it was quite damaging to have
santiago show up hours late and unprepared. Everyone's time was important
not just santiago's. That is why having an entire group waiting for hours
to begin rehearsal because of santiago was so disruptive and harmful (let's
not forget that at MMK santiago sent his files too late to be used in the
performance. This too was on my mind). Now, since Gernot did not confront
the necessity of having people show up on time and prepared for rehearsal,
I was forced to. I told this to santiago in plain and blunt terms. After
this he told me, "I will hate you forever!" So, I think we know where
santiago stands.
In regard to this so called "audience participation" element of the choros.
It is not conceptually new or innovative. I know this is hard for santiago
to come to grips with but it is a fact. How much effort does oudeis want
to expand for so little conceptual return? On his comments pertaining to
my tastes in music and tofu, I said I liked his compositions (maybe that
means my taste in music is lacking). Also, I do have to admit that I am
not as fond of sausages as is santiago.
In the Reference edition of Status Quo I write,
"In oudeis the only gods you will find are those from
Greek mythology."
That was my main point in "Sublime Endeavor."
If more time was used to confront the problems of oudeis, instead of being
used in personal attacks, this project would be in good shape and not the
sorry condition we find it in today.
