i'm working on the chor a lot.

a) a name: choros

found a name i like for the cyberchor. it's (oh i'm a very clever guy ;) )
"choros" (pronounce the 'ch' as in german, accent on the last 'o').

take a look at:

http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/lexindex?entry=xoro/s&display=Latin+tra
nsliteration

opinions?

b) greek text:

found the greek text of the odyssey (within Perseus, a site with lots of
greek texts and info). i guess that's the one we're going to use to write
the little songs. the URL is:

http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/text?vers=greek&lookup=hom.+od.+1.1&fil
ter=none&display=Sgreek

for the greek original (you'll need the 'Sgreek Fixed' font and Netscape
3.0. the Windows version can be downloaded from
ftp://gouda.perseus.tufts.edu/pub/sgfixed.exe
i made a Mac version. if you need it, mail me.)

or you can see a transliteration to normal (roman) characters in:

http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/text?vers=greek&lookup=hom.+od.+1.1&fil
ter=none&display=Latin+transliteration

c) i selected the verses to be used for the chor. the method used was this:

>2. algorythm-way: something like the sender adress algorythm, but used to
>choose texts.
>pros: internal unity/intrinsic truth; less work (that's what computers are
>for,
>anyway); we could have one of _our_ texts choose (ie: Monika's original
>invitation to the project), in this way relating to Homer's text in another way
>cons: it's an 'indirect' method of doing things; it's not easy to
>understand or
>to relate to (i almost hate to explain people i'm not studying physics but
>writing music).

a short (?) description:
the questions asked to the algorythm where:
1. which book?
2. which verse?
the answers were taken from the adressed of the first members of the
oudeis-idea team. since this was the first gathering of us all, i thought
this could 'gather' the texts from the odyssey.

i'll post a list ASAP (as soon as possible).

4. 16 songs

i'm starting to write the first 16 little songs, so we can hear them a bit,
and check if the chor (choros?) is going to sound good.

that's for today. see you tomorrow in the MOO.

best,

santiago
