uups! Premature ejaculation causes unplanned births in Vienna, around the world

I am always troubled by Monika's statement that she tried to birth a
little 'nobody' at MMK and failed. Maybe she wasn't looking in the
right place. :-) She nearly gave birth to Nestor, the Netphone and
finally did deposit one healthy, squalling brat on a hillside in
Athemoo.

It is a little early to ask 'what is going great' with this infant.
Eats and poops and demands its share of the attention. Pretty good for
that age. Fortunately, Artemis, protector of wild things and
innocents, has been on the skene from day one. So there's plenty of
laughter. Has eir's foot in eir mouth half the time. Naturally we are
worried about the one in the incubator. Don't think it can survive
such a robust twin.

After MMK, it was clear something had happened despite the 'failure'
in Vienna. No one thought to include a new daimon in the family foto.
Where does this MOOthing(y) belong? (That is assuming of course you
can get its attention.) I hear Georg not wanting to do a live
performance for Freiburg. Lee sounds much the same. I agree. I also
want the Flash and Bang Team (FBT) to stay out of the way. Shut up. Go
somewhere else. We need to do some MOO work without having to worry
much what we *might* have to do if one of your fragile toys doesn't
'go off.'

Working on the PR for Linz, I realized that with a few minor
changes--7 stages to 2 and Internet instead of Web--we have already
accomplished what we set out to accomplish. MMK was our proof of
concept. AE was fine tuning--having accepted the impossibility of
getting a message through to FBT in Linz. Next step is to work on
smaller, MOO/Java projects. We have sets, costumes, research, a
variewty of rooms, and people who want to work in performance whether
it is online or irl. Can collaborate with anyone.

So I suggest MOO/Web-only for Freiburg. This will give the Web an
opportunity to show what, if anything, the Web has to contribute. In
fact, we will know what we have before Freiburg since my class will be
putting on an interpretation of Euripides' "Iphegenia," and will be
linked in to Athemoo for that. I am sketching in weekly rehearsals to
harmonize with the tutorials and First Sunday seminars in Athemoo. So
there will be a audiences. And actors. This event, "Iphegenia in
Athemoo", will be up for the third week in March 1988 (a multi-session
event)--that concides with the vernal equinox, a day of equal light
and dark, upstart energy. Check your calendar for specifics. Meshes
with aka Boris event and final installation of the Hyperborean
multimedia show in Cafe galerie.

Most of the proposal for Freiburg is implemented already, as is the
proposal to Oudeis. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades are in their places. You
can @go olympus; @go sea, @go underworld, @go troy, We have a Vienna
in Athemoo (#2056). We welcome our friends in Vienna to Vienna Athemoo
(sounds almost good enough to eat, doesn't it? With a capuccino in one
of those Vienna cafes. Outside on a spring day when it is still a
little too cold and you are out there in your bare shoulders
remembering the lesson of wishful thinking.) Come help us build a
place that will make German-speaking people feel at home. Learn more
about the GNA network. Act in a show.

This is not an experiment. This is live, global community theater--and
it is happening. Volunteers and an occasional paid person, a student
or someone doing research. Capable of doing strenuous labor. I see it
as a form of community work, Lee. A form of engagement that uses talk
to go beyond talk to action. If, for instance, you would like some
feedback on the script which you propose, the Cognition Chamber is
just about ready. Or, if you're in a rush, I am sure we could workshop
the MS in one of the spaces we already have--cafe, auditorium,
theater, oudeis ship. Do you have smells, tastes, and tactile
information?

Buenos Ayres (#2057), Chicago (#2055), Hong Kong (#2061 and #2063)

A Surf and Turf show? Surf and Turf is mainly something for Mac users,
Lee. I think Pueblo is still better for most purposes, but Java offers
a standard to everyone. We can offer a lot more with Java code that
already exists. We really want to hear from you on this. I think maybe
a lot of people don't realize how much Juli has to hold back from
Windows and Unix to make sure she is offering an equivalent service to
Mac users. The Mac doesn't yet have a viable unix underpinning. So
help us test this important service. Go into Athemoo with your browser
pointed to

http://moo.hawaii.edu/athemoo/WebMOO.html

First you will get an opening screen which offers help and a few other
links. ST is loading for a minute or two here, so exercise some
patience. Then it will take you to the Athemoo opening screen. The
command line is in a separate box at the bottom. Type 'connect <your
character name> <your password>' and hit Enter or click on V. Type
'view #1912' without marks and Netscape will open a new window with a
hotlist of the 12 Olympians. See if you can find the window. You can
test your plug-in situation on the VRML and RealAudio objects in @go
CyberHut.

I am afraid Aaron misleads the group when he tells us that running a
computer system is a little bit different from running a desktop
workstation. It's a lot different, Lee. Mondo differencissimo! booga,
man. Not even in the same ball park. These systems are up 24-hours a
day with well-established snakes connecting them and teams of people
hired to make sure all is well. Satellite, microwave, fiberoptical,
cable, multi I/O parephernalia, RAID--the works. With anchovies--and
regular contracts. If you need machines that can handle bandwidth and
manifold complexities in your, uh, your market, Lee; then school is
where you belong. This is a kind of computing that MacDesktop folk
will have a hard time imagining, especially if they expect to maintain
the pose that their lips have never kissed anything but an organically
grown Macintosh computer. Faugh!

Personally, I think we should be looking at SiliconGraphics IRIX for
that work. Is that a Netscape supported environment? I look forward to
a day when our Mac colleagues are as helpful as our NeXT colleagues
have been in solving problems of multi-platform support. Let me just
ask one thing. When we get this ISDN linked Oudeis wide-area network
up and running for two or three places--Vienna, Linz, Resume Speed,
Iowa and South Slocan--what are you going to do with this
sucker--tour?

Can someone on the list help me, please? Who said, "Only a fool would
improvise without a script"? Was that Jerzy Grotowski? I can't find
it?

Please keep us posted on the baby in the incubator. When you are ready
for long-range testing, contact
